The Best Personal Safety Alarms for Travel Emergencies

Personal safety alarms are small, portable devices that emit an earsplitting sound when triggered, usually by the push of a button or removal of a pin. Most buyers are attracted to the idea that the noise will likely scare off, or at least startle, any attackers, giving you time to escape or making them flee to avoid attention. Most alarms emit around 130 decibels, which is about as loud as a military jet with an afterburner taking off from an aircraft carrier, so they’re certainly attention-getting — and well within the range where hearing damage can occur. If you’re activating one, try to hold it as far away from your own ears as possible and cover your ears if you can. Security expert Brianna Jensen of ASecureLife.com recommends considering three main factors when choosing a personal safety alarm: size, alarm time, and bonus features. You want something small enough that you’ll actually carry it and long-lasting enough to make sure people notice. And maybe a flashlight or whistle, just in case. “Personal alarms are legal and can’t be turned against you (unlike pepper spray, tasers, or other weapons), which makes them a discreet, lower-risk alternative to these other saf...

Plastic light diffusion systems match LED lighting needs (MAGAZINE) (UPDATED)

Gabi Bar and Moira Nir explain how to select thermoplastic compounds for SSL optical systems and how to measure the important transmission and diffusion parameters. GABI BAR and MOIRA NIR explain how to select thermoplastic compounds for SSL optical systems and how to measure the important transmission and diffusion parameters. In recent years, lighting manufacturers and developers have moved away from traditional light sources and to LED-based solid-state lighting (SSL) technology. While LEDs offer many benefits such as excellent energy efficiency, the point sources also present some problems in general-illumination applications – glare, for instance. So in LED lighting developments, engineers must design lens systems and covers that are optimized in terms of their light diffusion properties to eliminate the LED glare issue. Glass and transparent plastics, especially acrylic resins, have long been used in the lighting industry for various aesthetic and functional purposes in optics design. But as the lighting market moves increasingly to LED technology, requirements for high light diffusion have spurred lens and cover manufacturers to devote much of their activity to dev...

Sturgill Simpson returns with a rock ‘n’ roll voyage on ‘Sound & Fury,’ an album and Netflix film.

Once a country music critical favorite, Sturgill Simpson turns to rock ‘n’ roll on his latest release, ‘Sound & Fury.’ This conversation is moderated according to USA TODAY’s community rules. Please read the rules before joining the discussion. Listeners hungry for Sturgill Simpson’s familiar croon better keep feasting on the old stuff – because the Kentucky songwriter’s new album trades country comfort for all-out helping of rock ‘n’ roll grime.  On his new album “Sound & Fury,” out Friday, Simpson steps firmly away from the outlaw country sound where some once considered him a torchbearer. Instead, he ventures deep into the underbelly of fuzzy, futuristic guitar rock.  Simpson recorded “Sound & Fury” at Michigan’s McGuire Motor Inn, working alongside bandmates Bobby Emmett, Chuck Bartels and Miles Miller. John Hill, known for his work with Portugal. The Man and Cage The Elephant, co-produced the album.  And, if Simpson tapping into a no-nonsense dystopian soundscape wasn’t enough, Simpson teamed with leading names in anime to team the 40-minute stack of new tunes with a Netflix film of the same name.  How’s the album sound? And ...

Ribble’s 2019 CGR ‘adventure bike’ range has had a comprehensive makeover for 2019 and is available

Ribble’s 2019 CGR ‘adventure bike’ range has had a comprehensive makeover for 2019 and is available in aluminium, steel, carbon and titanium — and even as an amped-up alloy e-bike version. The range is designed to offer ‘the ultimate in versatility and performance to handle the toughest roads, terrain and weather conditions’. You can get an aluminium CGR for £999, but I’ve gone for the classy-looking Reynolds 725 steel number at £1,199. When it comes to stating versatility, Ribble isn’t pulling a fast one. The frame can accommodate 700c, 29er and 650b wheels and tyres up to a porky 47mm. Commuting, bike-packing and touring are catered for by rear rack mounts, a third set of bosses atop the top tube, and mudguard fittings with acres of clearance. I specced slick 28mm Continental Ultra Sport 2 tyres, but for the same price you could get Schwalbe’s gravel-friendly G-Ones or choose from six other tyres for extra cash. It’s not just tyres, either. Ribble lets you choose from numerous groupsets, cockpit components, wheels… just about everything. Back in the day the CGR might have been called a ‘light tourer’ or ‘randonneur’ but its versatility makes it more than that. I used it for lo...

MGW produces what can be easily argued as the most popular short-throw shifter for the the Ford Mustang. This how-to article will show you how to install their short-throw shifter for your 2011+ Mustang. In the two photos above you can see the make up of everything that was sent, lock tight upper and lower shift assemblies, nylon couple, fiberglass for the heat shield and dyma sound barrier material as well as more added insulation to block heat and noise from the inside of your car since this thing is right above the drive shaft and exhaust. The shiny white bracket in the first pic is the heat shield. The tools required for this are a 10mm deep well socket, 3/8 socket, 7/16, socket, and a few extensions. You may want to pick up more locktight as I found myself running out by the end. Use all the grease you need. I put my car on ramps, and no I didn’t drive on them I jacked up the car to get it on there. My car sits too low to drive up on them. What I realized when I started this is there are a lot more electrical connections if you have a premium model Mustang so be prepared to remove about 4 extra connections, including the digital stick shifter as it does not turn off like no...

Laser cutters are CNC power tools, which means an operator uploads a job digitally and then pushes START to let the machine do all the work while they lie back in a hammock sipping a margarita, occasionally leaping out in a panic because the sound coming from the machine changed slightly. Like other power tools, laser cutters are built around doing one thing very well, but they require an operator’s full attention and support. The operator needs to handle all the other things that go on before, during, and after the job. It’s not too hard to get adequate results, but to get truly professional and repeatable ones takes work and experience and an attention to detail. People often focus on success stories, but learning from failures is much more educational. In the spirit of exploring that idea, here are my favorite ways to fail at laser cutting and engraving. Not all of these are my own personal experience, but they are all someone’s personal experience. Null Space Labs gets a laser cutter – no doors or stairs for this thing! Morgan Stanley analysts have delivered another blow to Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA), slashing their worse-case scenario for the stock price to just $10 (from $97) because of concerns the electric-car leader has saturated the market. “Demand is at the heart of the problem,” analysts led by Adam Jonas said in a note. “Tesla has grown too big relative to near-term demand, putting great strain on the fundamentals.” Pocket folders, Clear book, File folder, File bag, Pencil case, File folder – Yongxu,https://www.nbyongxun.com/

Police are ‘very certain’ that a naked female body found in the hunt for Nora Quoirin is the missing British teenager, the officer leading the search in the Malaysian jungle revealed today.  The discovery was made by a volunteer hiker on the tenth day of an intensive search of the area surrounding the eco-resort where she was on holiday.    It was found near a waterfall around a mile away from the villa where the family were staying when the 15-year-old vanished.  Nora had told her family she was ‘excited’ to visit a waterfall when she arrived at the resort, a volunteer searcher told MailOnline.   The body was found near a stream in an area that had previously been searched, said Malaysia’s Deputy Inspector General of Police Mazlan Mansor.  A body has been found in the hunt for missing British teen Nora Quoirin in the Malaysian jungle, police sources say  State Police chief Mohammed Yusop said: ‘I can confirm a body has been found in the Betembum mountains.
